The Process of Handicraft

We introduce you the process of handicraft of weaving of jipi-japa with the pictures.


Palma real. The men help them to get heart of palm leaves because it is high.	Palm leaf jipi-japa. It is easier to get because it is low. They are cut by machete.	The leaves are separated thin by needle.

The leaves are dried under the sun.	The dry leaves are bathed in the water with lemon.	The leaves are put in a big covered wood box and they are smoked from below by smoke of carbon and sulfur to bleach.

In the case of dyeing the leaves, they are bathed in the boiling water with dyestuffs and lemon.	The dyed leaves are dried under the sun.	The bleached or dyed leaves are weaved.
